When an elderly woman wasted his time trying on shoes and a dress she couldn’t afford, the salesperson at the clothes store became irate. ultimately learns a lesson.
Garrett had spent several years as an employee of the most prominent boutique in the community. Because he was passionate about his work and had advanced to the personal style division, his primary clientele was relatively affluent.
He took great pleasure in assisting others in receiving their amazing clothing. However, a few other salespeople, particularly Miriam, a colleague, were enraged that he had been hired instead of them. They frequently made his work a little trickier.
This older woman once approached him in his department, saying she was in need of a dress for her granddaughter’s wedding. She said, “I’ve been saving for a while, and this store has great clothes, right?”
“Obviously, ma’am,” Garrett replied. Sadly, he saw that the woman was sporting worn shoes and a basic clothing. Could she truly dedicate all her savings to this particular area of the shop?
“Will you please assist me in finding something suitable then?” she questioned.
Indeed, ma’am. I’m Garrett, and I’m here to assist you in any way that you require. Would you mind telling me your name? He asked.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Sawyer. My name is Louise Sawyer.”
It’s good to meet you too, Mrs. Sawyer. What is your budget for today, please? stated Garrett.
“I have $100 saved up. Mrs. Sawyer replied, “I think that should be enough for a nice dress and some shoes,” and she began looking through the clothing racks. “Is this one suitable for a wedding in your opinion?”
Garrett said to her, “That’s a wonderful option for any evening occasion, ma’am.” However, he was concerned. He was wasting his time, probably, as the dresses in this segment didn’t go below $250. “Mrs. Sawyer, you ought to consider—”
“I want my grandchild to think well of me. She is getting married to a wealthy man, and together they will have expensive clothing. This appears stunning. Mrs. Sawyer interrupted him, saying, “I’ll go try it on,” and disappeared into the dressing room.
Garrett couldn’t afford anything here, but he didn’t want to burst this woman’s bubble. While squandering time on this woman, he was already losing actual clients to his colleagues. “Madam, have you looked downstairs already? He thought, “There are great sales in that section.”
Yes, indeed. I glanced in that direction. From the dressing room, Mrs. Sawyer responded, “But the saleslady downstairs said to come here and find a nice young man who could help me find the right dress.” “Will you get me some shoes to go with this dress?”
“Immediately,” Garrett answered. Casting a mental curse at Miriam, he went in search of shoes. It was most likely her who recommended him to this client. She also enjoyed making fun of her less wealthy patrons and treating them badly by putting their prices through the roof.
After bringing the shoes to Mrs. Sawyer, Garrett left the dressing room looking stunning. “This dress is amazing, and these heels are stunning! How much is this dress going to cost?” she pondered.
“I apologize, ma’am. I know I’ve been trying to tell you, but this is the most expensive area of the shop. The shoes alone cost $75, and that dress alone is $300,” Garrett remarked. He didn’t want to shatter this old woman’s heart, but Miriam was the one who sent her here in the first place.
“I don’t comprehend. So why did that woman direct me to this area of the shop? Are all of you laughing at me? With a grimace, Mrs. Sawyer inquired.
“Very definitely not, ma’am! She may have sent you downstairs to see another salesperson, but I’m not sure why she sent you here. Garrett said, “Her name is Cindy, and she’s very kind.”
“Um, huh. No worries about it. I’ll adapt. I don’t need to suffer any more humiliation,” Mrs. Sawyer retorted fiercely. She looked sad when she entered the changing room, her smile having vanished. Garrett became even more enraged at Miriam for hurting this woman and wasting his time.
“You’re welcome, young man. When she emerged with the elegant garment slung over her arm, Mrs. Sawyer added, “I hope I didn’t waste too much of your time.” Her crimson eyes were most likely from holding back tears. “I’ll shop elsewhere for clothes.”
Garrett watched her leave in her plain dress and beat-up shoes, but he was unable to let her go. “Mrs. Sawyer, just give me a minute,” he said, getting the shoe box and a bag. “You go now, ma’am.”
“What’s this?” I am unable to afford these clothes. Is this another one of the employees’ practical jokes? Mrs. Sawyer asked with outrage.
“No, Sawyer, Mrs. This is due to the fact that our store does not support salespeople that act in such a manner. You may be confident that I will bring up the other saleswoman’s attitude with our management. However, there’s more to it,” Garrett said.
“What?” she questioned.
“You remind me so much of my grandmother. But when I was a teenager, she passed away. She has always enjoyed clothes, even though we didn’t have a lot of money at home. I never got around to buying her the extravagant dress I had promised. This is my opportunity,” he replied.
Oh, I’m very appreciative. Mrs. Sawyer mumbled, “I don’t know what to say,” through her still-dry tears.
“There’s nothing to say, Mrs. Sawyer. No matter how much money they have, all customers should be treated with respect. Purchasing this garment for you has made me quite happy, Garrett added. Mrs. Sawyer hugged him and expressed her gratitude.
Miriam stared at her with her jaw agape as she left the store, grinning and waving. Garrett made up the story that the woman indeed had a wealthy grandchild who took care of everything. Later that week, the manager dismissed her for treating numerous clients horribly.
