Hello to all of you. My name is Nikki, and I would like to tell you a tale about how karma can occasionally use a little prodding. It all started when I saw my ex-fiance dining at an exclusive establishment with another woman. What was supposed to be just another night out for me became a delightful chance for luscious retaliation.
Here’s some background information before we get into the main narrative. I was engaged to this man named Mark about five years ago. After three years of dating, I was completely enamored with him—the kind of love where you can’t picture your life without your greatest companion.
Fortunately, Mark felt the same way I did and constantly reassured me of it. He abruptly called it quits while we were well into our wedding preparations, and I was ecstatic to begin a new chapter in my life with him. You did really hear correctly. He ended our relationship.
His logic? “I wasn’t deserving of him.” It seems that he had a significant promotion at work and thought that I didn’t match his new persona. Sounds absurd, doesn’t it?
He said he needed someone sexier, more sophisticated—that is, someone who wasn’t me. He said he wanted a companion who could live up to his “high standards” and that I lacked desire and drive. It really got to me. I spent months wallowing in my own despair, a complete mess.
I was aware that I needed to gather myself, but I was at a loss as to how. Everything brought up memories of us, of him, and of our time together. Although it took me a very long time to move on from him, the memories and the agony are still very much there in my thoughts.
It took me a long time to get over him since it hit me so hard. Now, fast-forward to the present: I’m 35 years old, happily single, and prospering professionally. I made the decision to treat myself to dinner at a chic new restaurant in town on Saturday.
When I got closer to the entrance, guess who I spotted through the window? It’s none other than Mark! He was laughing and enjoying dinner with a very attractive woman, looking as smug as ever.
I realized that I had to warn her in a way that he would never anticipate in order to seize this opportunity. I entered the restaurant with a wave of rage in my heart when inspiration hit.
I asked the waiter if he could do me a favor and he gave me a lovely smile. “Hey there. I require your assistance. Is the man at the table visible to you? He’s my ex-fiance,” I said, trying not to sound too serious. “I would be so grateful if you could assist me in pulling off a small practical joke.”
The waiter had a curious twinkle in his eyes. “What were your thoughts?” he inquired, inclining his head a little.
“Let’s start by sending a bottle of your priciest champagne along with a note,” I replied, feeling excited about my plan coming together quickly.
He gave a nod, mentally noting things. “What should be written on the note?”
I smiled and said, “To Mark, who always settles for second best.” With a laugh, the waiter moved on to set up the initial phase of my retaliation.
I observed from my table as the waiter gave Mark the wine and the message. The woman looked absolutely perplexed as a vivid shade of scarlet appeared on his face. She didn’t seem to be very convinced despite Mark’s attempts to explain things, as I could see.
I then chose to hit a little bit closer to my house. I gave the waiter another call. I added, “Now, I’d like to send them an appetizer.” Something to which he has severe allergies. And one more thing.
The waiter looked at me, but he didn’t ask any questions. How should this note be written?
“A simple reminder of what’s out of your reach,” I answered, feeling a little mean. He gave me a nod and left to follow my directions.
I eagerly saw the appetizer being served. The woman’s expression changed from bewilderment to annoyance, and Mark appeared on the verge of losing it. It was clear he was making a lot of effort to keep his cool, but it was a losing struggle.
For the last act, I required outside assistance. I gave my buddy Sarah, who lived close, a short call. Sarah, I need you to do me a major favor. Can you visit the recently opened downtown restaurant? I need you to be somewhat involved in my plan of retaliation.
Twenty minutes later, Sarah showed up, just as Mark was starting to show signs of strain. She approached their table and pretended to acknowledge Mark.
She cried out, “Oh my God, Mark!” loud enough for everyone in the restaurant to hear. “Since you attended that dating course last month, I haven’t seen you. How is your fiancé doing? Did she ultimately consent to the relationship being open?
Everything in the restaurant appeared to stop. Mark’s date appeared appalled. “Mark, what’s she talking about?” she insisted.
Mark faltered, attempting to clarify, but the harm had already been done. His face turning even more red, he blurted out, “Clara, it’s not what it sounds like.” “She’s just joking around, just a friend.”
Clara did not accept it. Her expression was a mixture of shock and rage as she narrowed her eyes. “A jest? concerning an open relationship with a fiancée? Actually, Mark? She got up and took her purse. “I feel like I wasted so much time on you.”
Mark stood there, flushed and enraged, as she stormed off. From my table, I relished every second of his demise. To put the icing on the cake, I chose to deliver one last blow.
I approached Mark’s table and grinned charmingly. “Hello Mark,” I murmured, taking pleasure in his shocked expression. It seems that I wasn’t so “not good enough” after all. Like a fish, he opened and closed his lips, but nothing came out.
I turned and walked out of the restaurant, feeling victorious. Even though my heart was racing, it felt fantastic. I stepped outside and breathed in the crisp night air, feeling lighter than I had in a long time.
I found out a few days later that Clara and Mark had broken up that evening through a mutual friend. It seems that he has been attempting to decipher why everything went so wrong ever since. He has even begun enquiring in an attempt to put together what transpired. I’ve moved on and am happier than ever in the interim.
That’s my story, people. It’s true that getting even may be incredibly pleasant, especially if humiliation is added as a garnish. Do you not concur? I appreciate you reading!
