Despite the fact that the woman’s family has always treated her poorly, they startled her by asking for assistance and expected her to endanger her own life.
A 31-year-old lady revealed on Reddit how her family had mistreated her all of her life. Her parents called their older sister Mary, 33, “the golden apple baby,” and she was always considered the favorite. In contrast, the Original Poster (OP) revealed that she was born prematurely with a heart condition and that she was unintentionally conceived.
“I spent a lot of time in the hospital as a child having multiple surgeries.”
To make matters worse, OP’s parents frequently complained that she was a financial burden, despite the fact that her grandparents routinely paid the shortfalls.
Regarding her sister, OP said that Mary openly detested her and constantly bullied her, with none of their parents ever intervening to stop it. Following high school, OP moved to a different state to attend college, supported by her grandparents, in order to get away from the toxic environment.
For OP, moving away was the “best decision” since it allowed her to meet Greg, her now-husband, who is kind to her. Following graduation, her sister’s wedding cost was cited as the reason why her parents failed to support their marriage, thus after graduation, they were married in a ceremony funded by her grandparents.
OP mentioned that her parents were not present at her wedding. As a result, she and her spouse decided to settle in the city where they attended college, with no interaction with her relatives other than her grandparents.
A risky pregnancy later, the couple welcomed a boy into their family. Due to the high risks, doctors even recommended abortion; yet, both the mother and the boy survived, despite the fact that OP’s heart was almost destroyed. She recalled:
“The doctors specifically advised me not to have any more children, and we agreed.”
Because of her grandfather’s deteriorating health, OP and her family moved back to her hometown about a month ago. When they got back, her sister and mother kind of just started being nice.
“It was unusual for my mother to ask how I was doing and to show her pride in me. My sister would behave in a same manner. “I thought there was a hidden agenda,” OP said.
Two weeks later, her sister gave her a card at a family dinner that her parents had thrown. OP was taken aback to see this after expecting an apology:
“I’m happy to announce you as my surrogate after learning, to my surprise, that I’m infertile.”
Startled, OP said no right away, pointing to her dangerous past as a pregnant woman. As Mary started crying uncontrollably, their parents chastised OP and called her a selfish person. She clarified the physicians’ advice, but her parents still said, “You take risks for family.”
OP and her husband hurriedly fled, distraught. In her Reddit post, she discussed her guilty sentiments and questioned whether refusing to put her health at danger as her sister’s surrogate constituted her a bad person.
In their encouraging comments, Reddit users commended her for putting her health first and counseled her to keep her distance from a family that seemed to think less of her. A different commenter highlighted that OP shouldn’t feel bad about confronting people who don’t care about her well-being.
