Former President Jimmy Carter Rolls Into The Late Wife Rosalynn’s Funeral In a Wheelchair

Wearing a dapper suit and wrapped in a blanket, Jimmy Carter was wheeled into the Roselynn funeral on Tuesday and sat at the front of the ceremony to bid his wife of more than 77 years farewell.

The 99-year-old, who is presently receiving hospice care, traveled 2.5 hours from his Plains, Georgia, home to Atlanta in order to attend the ceremony. On Monday, the body of his spouse was transported to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

Also in attendance at the event were President Joe Biden and his wife, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. All the other former first ladies were invited, including Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Melania Trump and Laura Bush. All attended as well and were pictured entering Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon in a line.

The former president’s son, Chip Carter, stated in an interview with The Washington Post that his father had visited Rosalynn in her last moments, telling her he loved her and was proud of all the “wonderful things she had done” in her life.

She was well-known for her unwavering support of improved mental health services and increased public understanding of mental health issues. She battled valiantly to lessen the stigma associated with mental health.

The day before Rosalynn passed away, on November 18, Jimmy reportedly asked for a minute by himself with his wife. Chip said that he was probably praying with her in their private chamber, where his own hospice bed had been arranged so that they could face one other.
