More details are surfacing about the circumstances surrounding Matthew Perry’s death. Sources tell us he actually died at his own house after some physical activity this morning.
We’re told Matthew came home sometime in the AM after a 2-hour round of pickleball, and that he sent his assistant out on errand shortly thereafter. We’re told when the assistant returned about 2 hours later, he discovered Matthew unresponsive and called 911.
It’s unclear if what Matthew was doing before his passing played any role in his death at this point. The investigation into his death is underway.
Law enforcement sources have reported that Matthew Perry was found at an L.A.-area home and appears to have drowned. First-responders arrived at the scene on a call for cardiac arrest. He was discovered in a jacuzzi at the home, and there were no drugs found at the scene, with no foul play suspected. Matthew Perry was most famous for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit ’90s sitcom “Friends,” which ran for 10 seasons, and he appeared in all 234 episodes. His character and performance have become iconic in popular culture, with fans frequently recreating and spoofing his famous catchphrases like “Could (blank) BE more…”
Even if “Friends” was his greatest hit, Over the years, MP had guest starred or starred in numerous other TV shows, including “The West Wing,” “Scrubs,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Go On,” “Charles in Charge,” “Sydney,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Home Free,” “Ally McBeal,” “Boys Will Be Boys,” “Growing Pains,” “Silver Spoons,” “Charles in Charge,” and more.
In addition, he had acted in a number of noteworthy comedies, including “Fools Rush In,” “The Whole Nine Yards,” “Three to Tango,” “The Kid,” “17 Again,” “Getting In,” and numerous others. More lately, he has disappeared from the spotlight. His last acting role was in a 2017 TV miniseries.
Although he had a friendly and cheerful appearance on TV, Matthew struggled greatly off-screen due to his addiction to alcohol and narcotics, particularly painkillers. He had been in and out of treatment for years, having developed a Vicodin addiction even while watching “Friends.”
In a book he published last year, Matthew talked candidly about this trying time in his life and described his hardships. mentioning his obvious weight gain or loss on the broadcast.
When he was doing his book tour, Matthew became quite upset in a number of interviews, including one in which he told Diane Sawyer his tale in full.
While Perry seemed sober and clean a year ago, fans expressed concern the year before when he and the other cast members were promoting the “Friends” reunion show. because they thought he seemed ill, occasionally slurring his words and seemed a little disoriented.
In addition to his drug abuse, Matthew struggled with a number of medical conditions, some of which were severe enough to require hospital stays. He had to have emergency surgery due to a gastrointestinal perforation in one instance, but he was fortunate to recover.
Although Matthew never got married, he did have a brief engagement to Molly Hurwitz a few years ago. it ended after just six months. He had been connected to Lizzy Caplan before to it.
His age was fifty-four.
