Hidey was in terrible shape when they discovered it wandering the streets. Despite the perception that cats are independent, several breeds require routine grooming. Hidey was neglected for years by her owner who was unable to groom her. Her matted fur initially led rescuers to mistake her for an alien-like species.
She was discovered by Paul Russell, who exclaimed, “My god, this is a cat!” Hidey, a 14-year-old cat, was saved by an animal-loving couple and taken to the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center.
Due to her owner’s Alzheimer’s, Hidey was neglected because she was unable to groom herself. She became a representation of assisting the elderly and their pets.
Dan Rossi, CEO, highlighted for the elderly the responsibilities of pet ownership. Hidey was in such bad shape that her fur looked like dreadlocks.
After a medical team shaved her tangled fur, Hidey found a new home with a family member. The experience emphasizes the value of helping older pet owners.
