In a recent interview, Denzel Washington said that he declined a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that would have paid him over $30 million because he did not want to be a part of what he considered to be a “woke” plot. Washington claimed that he was offered the part of a significant character whose covert homosexuality would have been discovered; but, the idea did not appeal to him.
Washington did not specify which persona he was offered, but Marvel experts have narrowed it down to Thanos or Groot even though they have said that none of those characters were the one he received.
It is impossible to identify which superhero it may have been because Marvel has a huge roster of them. Even the prospect of Agent Carter and Black Widow having a love relationship has been conjectured by some fans.
Washington has made it clear that he has no interest in contributing to storylines that he considers to be “woke.” He believes that his talents are better suited for films with an award-winning potential, such as his critically lauded performance in “Remember the Titans,” where he won praise.
Currently, Washington is refusing to receive 11 Black Oscar awards and proudly keeps three traditional Oscars on top of his refrigerator.
