Last November, 108 kids were saved from what was thought to be Michigan’s biggest dogfighting operation. One of the kids was an eyeless dog who was chained outside and had only a broken-down doghouse to live in.
With the help of local and state police, Dinghy Nation, an animal welfare group based in Detroit whose goal is to stop fighting and save lives, saved all of the animals.
A vet looked at the puppies and decided that the sweet boy, who was easily eyeless, probably lost his sight because he was hurt in battle.
Jessica Brown, who is in charge of operations at Bark Nation, told us, “We can’t even imagine how scary it must have been for him to live outside, without any protection, and without eyes.”
He was called “Turkey Jerky Snack” and was also called “the KING.” He quickly won the hearts of both staff and levies. Turkey is getting used to living in a shelter, but she would love to find a forever home. He is moving on from his traumatic past and is ready to love someone without conditions. When you can’t see, getting around a new place is hard and scary. Turkey has his own special cart that he rides every day to go outside.
