In this story, the dog is a real hero.
Homeless animals face a lot of problems, and even though Billy probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer on his own, he was still fighting to stay alive. Billy was walking by a couple’s house when they saw him.
The two people moved quickly. They called for help, and a rescue team came to look for the skinny white dog in the nearby woods. His little head finally came up! Billy was taken right away to the vet. The poor dog was both hungry and thirsty. He was so thin that he was just skin and bones.
Krista and Bill hung out at the vet’s office. In the video below, Krista talks about how she fell in love with Billy right away. She would always love him because of the look in his eyes, the pain he was in, and everything else that made him keep fighting.
Billy had to eat so much. He wanted to eat anything he could see. But the doctors and nurses knew that he would need to eat slowly if he wanted to keep food down. No one was sure he would live, but he had a lot of people cheering for him.
But by the next day, things were getting better. Billy was fighting hard, and the nutrition and fluids he was getting through an IV helped. He could move around more easily. His tiredness was getting better. The only bad thing was that his medical bills kept getting bigger and bigger. The couple couldn’t take it all in. The “Saving Billy” fundraiser was started at that time. Everyone in the neighborhood wanted to help. It was really great!
Billy was soon well enough to go home from the vet. Krista knew she wanted to be his foster mom, and her husband Bill knew he couldn’t stop her. As we said, Krista and Billy hit it off right away.
Billy was happy to get out of the vet’s office, but going home would be a big change. Billy needed physical therapy and a special diet. Krista never gave up, even though it took a lot of effort. As the days went by, Billy gained weight and started to feel more at home. He also had new dog siblings. Remington, one of the dogs, and Billy became best friends.
Seeing Billy on this trip only confirmed what Krista already knew in her heart. This dog was theirs forever. Billy was officially a “foster fail” at that point.
Now, Billy’s life is great.
The wonderful video below from The Dodo will tell you more about his new family and his journey. We are so glad that this special dog got a second chance.
Krista and Bill, thank you!
