Elijah Barkley and his friends and family didn’t know that while they were in West Virginia, he would save a young bear. Barkley was walking back to camp from the river when he was stopped by a ranger and a bear keeper. They asked him for help finding a bear that was alone. This little bear looks like he was raised by himself after his parents passed away.
After starting down the path, Barkley found the bear quickly. The Dodo reported that Barkley said: ,,He didn’t try to move when we got closer, so it was clear that he was either very tired or something was wrong. He didn’t go anywhere.”
Barkley told the ranger and bear keeper right away that the bear looked like he or she was going to pass out. The small bear was saved mostly so that bear keeper Joel Rosenthal, who also runs a wildlife rehabilitation center called Point of View Farm, Inc., could save him at the facility. The bear was too tired to keep his head above the water, so he was going to drown.
Barkley saved him.
As soon as Barkley saw that the bear was in trouble, he did something. He saw the animal’s head fall into the water, so he grabbed the bear by the back of the neck and pulled it toward the shore. Barkley said: ,,All I could think about was getting to the bear as quickly as possible. I didn’t think about the dangers.”
Barkley crossed the riverbank’s slick rocks and jumped into the freezing water to get to the cub before it was too late. I took it right away to Rosenthal so he could look at it. The bear was given a drug to make it sleepy, and then Rosenthal put it in his truck and wrapped it in towels.
