Back in 1995, 14 wolves were released into Yellowstone National Park after a full 29 years since they were last there. No one expected the miracle the wolves brought. It started with their deer hunting, which led to a drastic reduction in the deer population. The presence of wolves also forced the deer to hide and not enter the parts of the park where the wolves live.

Although it seemed bad and a lot of people were worried, what happened later was amazing. Thanks to the absence of deer, these parts of the park began to recover. The forest and willows began to bloom and that was the moment that was the beginning of the beautiful transformation of the entire park. With the forest and bushes, a lot of berries bloomed and new insects came.

As soon as this happened, various species of birds had reason to settle in this park. With a larger forest came new residents, such as the beaver that had until then been exterminated in the area. The beavers were just doing their job and building dams that separated parts of the river and the park, which attracted various reptiles.

Wolves also killed coyotes, and as a result the population of rabbits and mice increased, which means the arrival of more hawks, red foxes, badgers and weasels in the park. Even bald eagles and ravens came. But what’s most interesting about the whole story is that the wolves even managed to influence the behavior of the river in the park. With a higher balance between predators and prey, the possibility of the introduction of new animal species has also emerged and soil erosion due to lack of vegetation has decreased.

The wolves not only transformed the large ecosystem of Yellowstone National Park, they completely changed the look of the park with their arrival. This is another proof of how much animals are needed in our lives, either in nature or as pets.

Everyone has a role to play, and these wonderful wolves have built an entire beautiful Yellowstone National Park.
