Cold weather can be dangerous for dogs, even for those with a thick fur. They can easily get frostbites or suffer from hypothermia.
In the coldest place on earth, one dog’s life was in danger. He was trapped on an ice floe in the Arctic! Fortunately, a group of Russian sailors were able to rescue the dog in time.

According to CNN, and originally reported by Russian media, the dog, a Samoyed named Aika, had wandered away from his village during a walk and was stuck on an ice floe for over a week.

It borders on a miracle that someone discovered this little dog among all the ice and snow. The crew of a Russian ship, which was passing through the ice fields, fortunately saved the dog’s life.

When the crew realized Aika was trapped, they immediately initiated the rescue.
“We extended the ladder over which the dog climbed on board by itself,” navigation assistant Evgeny Hagibin told the Russian 1 channel.

Fortunately, Aika was in good shape and still wagging her tail. Although the Samoyed is well adapted to the cold with a thick fur, it is still remarkable that Aika survived that long in the ice.
The crew contacted the local village and got in touch with Aika’s owners. “A few hours later, the animal was safely returned to her owner,” Hagibin said, according to Reuters.

Aika’s family is happy to have their dog back. “The dog didn’t go anywhere without us. We have no idea how she got there,” said the owner Svetlana Chereshneva.
Thank you to the crew of the ship for rescuing Aika! What a miracle that she survived!
