In late December Junrell Fuentes Revilla was riding on his bike through the mountains in the near of Cebu, Philippines, when all of a sudden, he noticed a dog following him.
The dog barked and barked and desperately tried to get Revilla’s attention. The biker felt that the dog wanted to tell him something, so he stopped his bike and approached to the dog. The dog guided Revilla to a dumping ground and to a tiny winding bunch on the ground. “To Revilla’s surprise he found a baby that was covered in a brown towel”, Gea Ybarita said, an employee from HOPE FOR STRAYS. “The place where the baby was found is very remoted, since it is on the summit of the mountain”. Revilla immediately took the newborn and brought it to the nearest police station, were the Department of Social Welfare intervened. Thanks to the quick apprehension of the dog the baby was found only just in time and was still in a good health.
As the story of the bravery of the brave dog spread through the local news, volunteers from HOPE FOR STRAYS rushed to the mountains, hoping to find the helpful dog. Instead, they found a man, who claimed that the dog named Blacky belonged to him.
„He showed us the way to his house and to our surprise Blacky was there with three other dogs “, Ybarita said. “We confirmed, that he wasn’t a stray”. The rescuers where at ease as they found out that Blacky had an affectionate home, but it was obvious that the dog and his family still needed help. Blacky’s owner said to Ybarita: “No matter how hard life is, although I’m poor, I will still feed all of my dogs and care for them”.
Blacky and his family since then received much support from the community, including food for the dogs, pet supplies and much more. Even if Blacky doesn’t know, he changed his own future as well as the future of his family and a very lucky and happy baby girl.
